Comments and reviews

Discuss notes in comment threads, get notified, and review, compare and restore earlier versions, including changes made by AI agents

Anyone who can open a note can comment on it: everyone with access to its space. Comments sit beside the note, not inside its text, so they never end up in exports or published sites.

Commenting on a passage

Select the text

Select a few words or sentences in the note. This works while reading and while editing.

Start the comment

On a wide screen, click the speech-bubble button that appears beside the selection (Comment (Ctrl+Alt+M)). On a narrow screen, tap Comment at the bottom of the screen. Or press Ctrl+Alt+M (⌘+Option+M on a Mac).

Write and send

Type your comment and press Enter to send it. Shift+Enter starts a new line, and Esc cancels.

The passage is highlighted in the note. On wide screens the thread shows in a margin to the right of the text, level with its passage; click a highlight to bring its thread forward.

Commenting on the whole note

Click Comments in the top bar to open the comments panel (on a phone it's in the top bar's ⋯ menu). The box at the top, Comment on this note… (select text to comment on it), starts a thread about the note as a whole. Those threads are marked On the whole note.

The panel lists every thread, with Open and Resolved tabs. The Comments button shows how many threads are open, and the sidebar shows the same number next to the note's name.

Mentioning people

Type @ in a comment and start typing a name. Pick a person from the list with the arrow keys and Enter (or Tab), or click them. Only people who can open the note are suggested, and only they are notified.

Replying, editing and deleting

Click a thread to open it, type in Reply… and press Enter. Until you open it, a thread with several replies shows only its first comment and a count such as 3 more replies; click it to see them all.

To change or remove your own comment, open the thread's More menu and choose Edit or Delete. Deleting the first comment of a thread (Delete thread) deletes the whole thread. You can only edit and delete comments you wrote.

Resolving and reopening

When a discussion is done, click Resolve (the tick) on the thread. It moves to the Resolved tab, with Resolved by and the person's name. To bring it back, click Reopen, or simply reply to it (Reply to reopen…).

When the text changes

Because comments are stored beside the note, editing the note doesn't delete them. If the passage a thread is about is later changed or removed, the thread stays open and says The commented text was changed or removed. Such threads appear in the comments panel rather than in the margin, so you can still read, answer or resolve them.

Notifications

The bell in the top bar shows how many unread notifications you have. You're notified when:

  • someone mentions you in a comment

  • someone replies in a thread you've taken part in

  • someone resolves a thread you started

  • you're invited to an organisation, or removed from one

Click a notification to go straight to the note and thread. Mark all read clears the count. The desktop app can also show notifications as system notifications.

Reviewing changes

Every time someone saves a note, Kribble keeps that version. Click History in the top bar to see them (on a phone: ⋯ › Version history).

The History panel lists the versions newest first: the revision number (Rev 01, Rev 02 and so on), who saved it, and when. Click a version to look at it:

  • Changes shows what that version changed compared with the one before it, as lines of markdown: added lines in green with +, removed lines in red with −, and long unchanged stretches folded away (⋯ 12 unchanged lines). A count at the top sums up the lines added and removed.

  • Preview shows the note as it looked in that version.

Click Back to list to pick another version.

The changes are compared as markdown, so changes that markdown can't show, such as a table's column widths or the shapes in a drawing, don't appear. A version with only such changes says No changes to the text in this version.

Restoring an earlier version

Open the version you want and click Restore this version. The note's content goes back to that version, saved as a new version on top. Nothing in between is lost: the restore shows up in the history like any other save, so you can undo it the same way.

Restoring changes the note's content only. Its name, icon and comments stay as they are.

Reviewing an AI agent's edits

AI agents and scripts work in Kribble through the kribble CLI or MCP, using an access token (see AI agents). Each of their saves is a version like yours, labelled with the token that made it: the history shows the author followed by via and the token's name, and the line above the note's title says who saved it last.

To check what an agent did, open History, click its version and read Changes. If you don't want the change, open the version before it and click Restore this version.

Comments and resolutions written by an agent are labelled the same way, with the token's name next to the author.
